ამიტომ means so or that's why, and starts the result of a reason.

How It Works

ამიტომ (amit'om) links a reason to its result. The order is always the same:

Put a comma before ამიტომ: წვიმს, ამიტომ სახლში ვრჩები (it's raining, so I'm staying home).

It belongs with რატომ (why): both end in -ტომ. The ამ- at the front points to this, so ამიტომ means for this reason.

The result after ამიტომ can be anything you do or don't do: ხვალ სამსახური მაქვს, ამიტომ ვერ მოვალ (I have work tomorrow, so I can't come).

Do not use ამიტომ for because. It always points to the result. To give a reason after the result, you will later use იმიტომ, რომ or რადგან.

  • Using ამიტომ for because.

    სახლში ვრჩები, ამიტომ წვიმს.
    წვიმს, ამიტომ სახლში ვრჩები.

    ამიტომ starts the result, so the reason must come first.
