Participle + არის
Is Done
A past participle with არის or the short -ა describes a state: კარი დაკეტილია (the door is locked).
How It Works
Put a past participle before არის, or add the short -ა, to say what state something is in:
- კარი დაკეტილია. (The door is locked.)
- სუფრა უკვე გაშლილია. (The table is already laid.)
This tells how things are now. The past passive tells what happened:
| Event | State |
|---|---|
| კარი დაიკეტა. (The door closed.) | კარი დაკეტილია. (The door is locked.) |
| ბილეთები გაიყიდა. (The tickets sold.) | ბილეთები გაყიდულია. (The tickets are sold.) |
For a state in the past, use იყო: როცა მივედით, მაღაზია უკვე დაკეტილი იყო (when we arrived, the shop was already closed).
With -ის მიერ, the same pattern names who did it: ეს წიგნი ნინოს მიერ არის დაწერილი.
Some state words are plain adjectives, such as ღია (open): მაღაზია ღიაა.
