არა მარტო ..., არამედ
Not Only ... but Also
არა მარტო ..., არამედ ... -ც means not only ... but also.
How It Works
| First item | Second item, with -ც |
|---|---|
| არა მარტო ქართული, | არამედ ინგლისურიც (not only Georgian but also English) |
| არა მარტო ზაფხულში, | არამედ ზამთარშიც (not only in summer but also in winter) |
| არა მარტო ბავშვებს, | არამედ დიდებსაც (not only children but adults too) |
After a consonant, -ც becomes -აც: დიდებს → დიდებსაც.
The two items match in case. In არა მარტო ბავშვებს, არამედ დიდებსაც უყვართ ეს ფილმი, both are dative, because უყვართ (they love) is a feeling verb.
In writing you will also see არა მხოლოდ in place of არა მარტო, with the same meaning.
For a simpler both ... and, add -ც to both items: ქართულიც იცის და ინგლისურიც.
