მაგრამ
But
მაგრამ means but.
How It Works
Use მაგრამ when the second part goes against what the first part leads you to expect:
- მშია, მაგრამ დრო არ მაქვს. (I'm hungry, but I don't have time.)
- ყავა მიყვარს, მაგრამ დღეს ჩაის ვსვამ. (I love coffee, but today I'm drinking tea.)
You can leave out a word the two parts share. In სახლი პატარა არის, მაგრამ ლამაზი, the word არის is said only once.
In speech, მაგრამ can also start a new sentence: მაგრამ რატომ? (But why?)
For and, use და; for or, use ან.
You will hear it in shops: ძვირი არის, მაგრამ კარგი (it's expensive, but good).
