-ც კი

Even

Level 4Sounds Like ts kʼi

Add -ც to a word and put კი after it to say even: ბავშვმაც კი იცის (even a child knows).

How It Works

To say even, add -ც to the word you want to stress and put კი (k'i) after it: ბავშვმაც კი იცის (even a child knows).

The -ც comes after the case ending or the postposition, so the case stays in its usual place:

WordEven ...
ბავშვმა (a child, ergative)ბავშვმაც კი
შაბათს (on Saturday)შაბათსაც კი
თბილისში (in Tbilisi)თბილისშიც კი
პური (bread)პურიც კი

After a consonant, an -ა- comes in before -ც: შაბათს gives შაბათსაც. This is the same -ც as in the Too and Also topic.

With a negative verb it means not even: ნინომ ერთი სიტყვაც კი არ თქვა (Nino didn't say even one word).

In speech, -ც alone often means even as well: ეს ბავშვმაც იცის. Adding კი makes the meaning clear.

Keep the -ც: კი on its own after a word means as for, so ბავშვმა კი იცის means the child, though, knows.

Common Mistakes

  • Using კი alone for even.

    ბავშვმა კი იცის ეს.
    ბავშვმაც კი იცის ეს.

To say even a child knows this, add -ც. Without it, კი means as for, and the sentence means the child, though, knows this.
