და
And
და means and: it joins words and whole sentences.
How It Works
და can join two words or two sentences:
- პური და ყველი (bread and cheese);
- მე ვკითხულობ და ნინო წერს (I'm reading and Nino is writing).
In a list, put და before the last item: ჩაი, ყავა და წყალი (tea, coffee and water).
და also sits inside numbers: ოცდაერთი (twenty-one) is twenty and one.
და (and) and და (sister) sound the same. The sentence tells you which one you hear: ჩემი და ექიმი არის (my sister is a doctor). After ჩემი, შენი or another possessive, it is sister.
When და joins two people who do something, the verb is plural: ნინო და გიორგი მოდიან (Nino and Giorgi are coming).
