How It Works

Word	Meaning	Question	Answer
چه	what	این چه است؟	این چای است.
کی	who	او کی است؟	او مریم است.
کجا	where	شما کجا استید؟	من اینجا استم.

The question word takes the same place as the answer: این چای است. این چه است؟

Do not move the verb to the front. The form of be stays last. For when, Dari says چه وقت, and for why, Dari says چرا.

Question words can stand alone in a quick question: چه؟ کی؟ کجا؟ Add the rest of the sentence when you want to be polite.
