The answer is a number and the same noun: سه برادر دارم.
How It Works
Ask with چند and answer with a number. The noun is the same in both.

Add a counting word to ask about pieces or people: چند دانه؟ چند نفر؟ To ask a person's age, say چند ساله استید؟ That question has its own entry.
In a statement, چند means a few: چند روز پیش means a few days ago. A short answer can be just the number and the noun: شش نفر.

Using چند for an amount you cannot count.
