hi (complements de règim a/en)
Hi with Governed a and En Complements
Hi replaces many recoverable complements governed by a or en.
How It Works
Some verbs require a preposition as part of their construction: pensar en el problema, renunciar al càrrec. When that complement is understood, hi can replace it: hi penso, hi renuncio. Hi therefore does not always mean there.
Do not extend this to every phrase beginning with a. An indirect-object recipient generally uses li or els, while de-complements commonly use en. The verb's government and the phrase's function decide the pronoun.
A pronominal verb keeps its reflexive element: oposar-se a la proposta gives s'hi oposa. Learn the complete construction, including the preposition and any reflexive pronoun, instead of memorizing hi as a free-standing translation of an English adverb.
