Article and Noun Agreement
Choose el/la/els/les or un/una/uns/unes to match the noun.
How It Works
The article marks the gender and number of the noun phrase. Learn a noun with its article: el problema is masculine despite -a, while la mà is feminine. An adjective joins the same agreement pattern.
L’ hides the singular gender in its spelling: l'amic is masculine and l'amiga feminine. The plurals make it visible again: els amics and les amigues. Neither plural article takes an apostrophe.
With masculine articles, a/de/per produce al/del/pel and als/dels/pels. The house-of particle ca also has cal/cals with el/els and can with en. Feminine articles remain separate, as in de les amigues. Before singular l’, use a l’, de l’ and per l’.
