n'hi
Combined N'hi
N’hi combines partitive en with hi, often when a quantity appears with haver-hi.
How It Works
Hi ha tres llibres becomes n'hi ha tres when the noun is understood. En represents the counted things and hi belongs to the existential construction. Keep the numeral or another quantity such as molts, prou or cap.
The same written combination can represent an object and a location with another verb: posa pomes al cistell becomes n'hi posa. The functions must be recovered from context; n'hi is not a single word that always means there are.
The apostrophe joins en to hi as n'hi. Existential formal agreement remains singular: n'hi havia moltes, with the feminine plural carried by moltes rather than by haver. Recipient interpretations of n'hi in some varieties are a separate combination.
