en (pronom feble partitiu)
Partitive Clitic En
Partitive en replaces an understood indefinite noun while its quantity remains expressed.
How It Works
If the topic is apples, vull tres pomes can become en vull tres. En replaces the noun idea, not the number: retain tres. The same pattern works with no en tinc cap and en tenim prou.
When a number or quantifier remains, en supplies the missing noun content: en necessito tres, no en queda gaire. With a feminine singular count noun, retain una: vols una poma? Sí, en vull una.
An adjective remaining after an omitted noun commonly uses de: en tinc de vermelles. Distinguish the requested quantity from a definite identified set: en vull dues asks for two members, while les vull refers to the identified feminine plural objects as a group. A bare answer such as dues can work on its own, but in a full finite clause the en construction is the normal model when its noun complement is understood.
