hi ha
Present Haver-hi
Hi ha introduces something that exists or is present.
How It Works
Use hi ha before the thing you are introducing: hi ha pa, hi ha una botiga. Hi is part of the expression haver-hi; do not drop it just because you also name a place.
For a shared formal model, use singular hi ha with both singular and plural noun phrases: hi ha una cadira, hi ha tres cadires. Plural agreement exists in regional speech; singular is the established cross-regional formal choice, not evidence that the following noun is singular.
To locate something already identified, use ser: la botiga és aquí. Compare aquí hi ha una botiga, which introduces a shop, with la botiga és aquí, which says where the known shop is.
