Agreement of Common Quantifiers

Level 2

Molt, poc and tant agree with a following noun but stay invariable when modifying a verb or adjective.

How It Works

Compare molt temps, molta feina, molts llibres and moltes coses. The quantifier follows the noun's gender and number, just like an adjective. Poc and tant have parallel forms: poca aigua, tants dies.

When the word measures a verb or an adjective, it is adverbial and does not agree: treballen molt, estan molt cansades. Do not write moltes cansades because the adjective is feminine plural; molt modifies the degree of tiredness, not a noun.

Gaire distinguishes singular and plural quantities: gaire temps, gaires preguntes. In questions and negatives it often corresponds to much or many, while molt remains possible in particular meanings and varieties. Choose from the intended quantity and construction rather than replacing every negative molt automatically.

We have a lot of work.

  2. Hi ha pocs llibres.
