မယ့်
Future Events Before a Noun
မယ့် has a creaky tone; the ending မယ် at the end of a sentence has a low tone.
How It Works
မယ့် is the future partner of တဲ့. Both put a describing clause before a noun. တဲ့ is for things that happen or have happened, and မယ့် is for things still to come.
| Clause | Noun | English |
|---|---|---|
| မနေ့က လာခဲ့တဲ့ | ဧည့်သည် | the guest who came yesterday |
| မနက်ဖြန် လာမယ့် | ဧည့်သည် | the guest who is coming tomorrow |
| နောက်လ သွားမယ့် | နေရာ | the place I'm going next month |
Spell it with the creaky mark: မယ့်. The sentence ending မယ် has no ့ and sounds different, so လာမယ် is "will come" and လာမယ့် ဧည့်သည် is "the guest who will come".
The phrase acts as one noun. It can take က, ကို, အတွက် or end a sentence with ပါ. Writing uses မည့်.
It is handy for asking about plans: သွားမယ့်နေရာ ဘယ်မှာလဲ။ (Where is the place you're going?)
