Describing a Noun with a Clause
For something that has not happened yet, use မယ့် in place of တဲ့.
How It Works
တဲ့ lets a whole clause describe a noun. The clause comes first, and the noun comes last.
| Clause + တဲ့ | Noun | English |
|---|---|---|
| ရန်ကုန်မှာ နေတဲ့ | သူငယ်ချင်း | a friend who lives in Yangon |
| မနေ့က ဝယ်ခဲ့တဲ့ | ဖိနပ် | the shoes I bought yesterday |
| အသားမစားတဲ့ | လူ | a person who doesn't eat meat |
The verb before တဲ့ loses its own ending. Use ခဲ့တဲ့ when the past matters, and put မ before the verb for a negative.
The whole phrase works like one noun. It can take က, ကို or မှာ, and it can end a sentence with ပါ: ဒါ ကျွန်မ ကြိုက်တဲ့ သီချင်းပါ။ (This is a song I like.)
တဲ့ before a noun describes it. At the end of a whole sentence, after တယ် or မယ်, တဲ့ passes on what someone said. For future events before a noun, use မယ့်. Writing uses သော or သည့်.

Keeping တယ် before တဲ့.
