In This Way and in That Way
Before a noun, add သော: ဤသို့သော အခွင့်အရေး (a chance like this).
How It Works
ဤသို့ means "like this" or "in this way". ထိုသို့ means "like that", "in that way" or simply "so". They are the written partners of spoken ဒီလို and အဲဒီလို.

News uses ထိုသို့ to point back to words just quoted: after a quote, ထိုသို့ ပြောကြားသည် means he said so. It also starts a sentence that gives a reason: ထိုသို့ ဖြစ်ရခြင်းသည် … means this happened because ….
ဤသို့ often points forward to steps or an example that follows, or to a method: ဤသို့ ပြုလုပ်ခြင်းဖြင့် means by doing it this way.
Read ထိုသို့ as one word meaning "in that way". For "to that place", write ထိုနေရာသို့.
In speech, ဒီလို and အဲဒီလို do the same jobs: ဒီလို လုပ်ရင် ရေ ချွေတာနိုင်တယ် (if you do it like this, you can save water). Keep each style in its own sentences.

Common Mistakes
Using spoken ဒီလို in a written sentence.
ဒီလို ပြုလုပ်ခြင်းဖြင့် ရေကို ချွေတာနိုင်သည်။ဤသို့ ပြုလုပ်ခြင်းဖြင့် ရေကို ချွေတာနိုင်သည်။A sentence that ends with သည် takes ဤသို့.
Using ထိုသို့ for "to that place".
ကျောင်းသားများ ထိုသို့ သွားရောက်ကြသည်။ကျောင်းသားများ ထိုနေရာသို့ သွားရောက်ကြသည်။ထိုသို့ means "in that way". A place needs a noun before သို့.
