ရင်တောင် is for something that may happen; for a fact that is already true, use ပေမယ့်.

How It Works

ရင်တောင် joins two clauses. The first says what might happen, and the second says what stays true anyway. It is ရင် (if) plus တောင် (even).

The verb before ရင်တောင် has no ending of its own. For "even if not", put မ before that verb: မအားရင်တောင် (even if I'm not free). The result can be a plan, a promise, a rule or a request.

With ဘယ်လောက် (how much), the pattern means "no matter how": ဘယ်လောက် ပင်ပန်းရင်တောင် (no matter how tired).

ရင်တောင် is for something that may or may not happen. For a fact that is already true, use ပေမယ့်: မိုးရွာပေမယ့် သွားတယ် (it was raining, but I went).

This is spoken Burmese, used in conversation, chats and stories. Writing says လျှင်ပင်, where ပင် is the written partner of တောင်. For a fact in writing, it uses သော်လည်း.

    A woman is speaking; ရင်တောင် ends the "even if" clause.

  2. ဈေးကြီးရင်တောင် ဒီဖုန်းကို ဝယ်မယ်။

    I'll buy this phone even if it's expensive.

    ဈေးကြီးရင်တောင် means "even if it's expensive".

  3. အိပ်ချင်ရင်တောင် စာဆက်ကျက်ရမယ်။

    Even if you are sleepy, you have to keep studying.

    The result after ရင်တောင် is a rule with ရ.

  4. ကျွန်တော် မအားရင်တောင် ဖုန်းဆက်ပါ့မယ်။

    Even if I'm busy, I'll call you.

    A man is speaking; မ goes before the verb for "even if not".

  5. ဘယ်လောက် ပင်ပန်းရင်တောင် သူ မညည်းဘူး။

    No matter how tired she is, she never complains.

    With ဘယ်လောက်, ရင်တောင် means "no matter how"; သူ covers he and she.

    မိုးရွာရင်တောင် သွားမယ်။
