For "anything", the question word ဘာ takes မဆို the same way: ဘာမဆို မေးပါ။ (Ask me anything.)

How It Works

မဆို means "no matter". With a question word, it opens the choice to every possibility.

In a statement, the verb is positive: ဘယ်သူမဆို ဝင်လို့ရတယ် (Anyone can come in).

For "nobody" or "nothing", the pattern changes to ဘယ်…မှ with a negative verb: ဘယ်သူမှ မလာဘူး (Nobody came).

ဖြစ်ဖြစ် does a similar job with ပဲ: ဘယ်သူပဲဖြစ်ဖြစ် (whoever it is).

Many everyday offers use it. A host says ဘာမဆို စားပါ (Eat whatever you like), and a shopkeeper says ဘယ်ဟာမဆို ရွေးပါ (Choose any one). The word after ဘယ် can be any noun: ဘယ်ဆိုင်မဆို (any shop), ဘယ်နေ့မဆို (any day).

ဘယ်ဟာ means "which one", so ဘယ်ဟာမဆို means "whichever one".

Add ပါ to the verb to keep these offers polite.

    A man speaks. ဘယ် goes before the noun ဟင်း.

  5. ကျွန်မ ဘယ်နေရာမဆို လိုက်ခဲ့မယ်ရှင်။

    I'll come with you anywhere.

    A woman speaks. ဘယ်နေရာမဆို means "anywhere".

Common Mistakes

  • Using မဆို with a negative for "nobody".

    ဘယ်သူမဆို မလာဘူး။
    ဘယ်သူမှ မလာဘူး။

    For "nobody", use မှ with the negative verb.
