ဒါ / အဲဒါ
This One and That One
ဟိုဟာ is the word for "that one over there", far from both of you.
How It Works
When you point without naming the thing, use ဒါ or အဲဒါ. They replace the whole noun.
| Word | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ဒါ | this, this thing | ဒါ ဘာလဲ။ (What is this?) |
| အဲဒါ | that, the thing just said | အဲဒါ မှန်တယ်။ (That's right.) |
| ဟိုဟာ | that one over there | ဟိုဟာ ယူမယ်။ (I'll take that one.) |
In a shop, point and say ဒါ ဘယ်လောက်လဲ။ (How much is this?). To take it, say ဒါကို ယူမယ်။ (I'll take this).
If a noun follows, use ဒီ or အဲဒီ: ဒီစာအုပ် (this book).
ဒါ and အဲဒါ also take the plural word တွေ: ဒါတွေ means these things.

Common Mistakes
Using ဒီ without a noun.
