-ish borasida

With Regard to

Level 6

-ish form or noun + borasida = with regard to, in the area of: hamkorlikni rivojlantirish borasida (on developing cooperation). After bu or shu it becomes bu borada (in this regard).

How It Works

How it is built. Borasida = bora + -si + -da. The word before it takes no case ending. A verb first becomes an -ish noun, and that noun can keep its own object with -ni:

  • hamkorlikni rivojlantirish borasida (on developing cooperation)
  • taʼlim sifatini oshirish borasida (on raising the quality of education)
  • ekologiya borasida (in the area of ecology)

Bu borada. After bu, shu or ushbu, drop the possessive: bu borada (in this regard), shu borada (on this matter). This short phrase is very common: U bu borada katta tajribaga ega (She has a lot of experience in this area).

Typical partners. Borasida usually goes with words about work and talks: ishlar olib borilmoqda (work is being done), kelishib olishdi (they agreed), takliflar (proposals), tajriba (experience).

Compared with haqida and boʻyicha. Haqida is the everyday about for talking, reading and writing. Boʻyicha links a field or plan in a neutral way. Borasida is the most formal of the three. Official writing has similar words, such as yuzasidan and -ga oid.

A different bora. In literary style, bora on its own can also mean time, as in soʻnggi bora (for the last time).

Bu borada hali koʻp ish qilish kerak.

After bu, shu and ushbu, standard Uzbek gives bora only -da: bu borada. Bu borasida is often heard in speech, but careful writing avoids it.

  • Adding a case ending to the -ish noun before borasida.

    Suvni tejashni borasida takliflar bor.
    Suvni tejash borasida takliflar bor.

The -ish noun before borasida takes no ending of its own. Only its object, suv, takes -ni.
