Read the time phrase before choosing an English translation.

How It Works

The progressive keeps the ordinary subject agreement of an active ongoing action: رہی ہوگی with a feminine singular subject, and رہے ہوں گے with a masculine or mixed group.

The speaker may be making an inference rather than reporting something seen directly. Do not translate the auxiliary as a certainty or assign it an exact percentage of probability.

A future time expression can give the construction an ordinary future-progressive reading. The form alone does not always mean “probably now.”

  1. مریم ابھی پڑھ رہی ہوگی۔

    Maryam is probably reading now.

    ابھی locates the inferred activity in the present.

  2. بچے اس وقت کھیل رہے ہوں گے۔

    The children are probably playing at the moment.

    The speaker infers an ongoing group activity.

  3. کل اس وقت میں سفر کر رہا ہوں گا۔

    At this time tomorrow, I will be traveling.

    The masculine speaker gives an explicit future reference point.

  4. جب آپ پہنچیں گے، ہم انتظار کر رہے ہوں گے۔

    When you arrive, we will be waiting.

    The ongoing action is located at the listener’s future arrival.
