ได้รับ
Receiving with ได้รับ
ได้รับ occurs with a scholarship and with selection, approval, invitation, appointment, or injury in these examples. It does not guarantee a positive or neutral outcome.
How It Works
Receiving Something
นักเรียนได้รับทุนการศึกษา says the student received a scholarship. The selection example uses ได้รับการคัดเลือก, and the project example uses ได้รับความเห็นชอบ for receiving approval.
Learn The Complete Form
The invitation and appointment examples put เชิญ and แต่งตั้ง directly after ได้รับ. Both combinations have independent dictionary support. In contrast, the selection example contains การ and the approval example contains ความ. These expressions do not create a rule requiring a noun prefix before every other verb or classify every possible following word.
An Injury Expression
ได้รับบาดเจ็บ describes injury in the passenger example. The same expression occurs in the university medical course description of injured patients. Its injury meaning is enough to show why ได้รับ cannot be taught as positive-outcome-only. Compare the full actions and contexts when reading ถูก and โดน as well.
The Source Phrase
จากรัฐบาล names the government in the approval example, and จากอุบัติเหตุ names the accident in the injury example. The praise card selects เขาได้รับการยกย่องจากครู. Read each complete phrase rather than applying one universal source-versus-agent position rule to every construction after ได้รับ.

เขาได้รับถูกชมเขาได้รับการชมเชยFor the displayed praise statement, choose เขาได้รับการชมเชย. เขาได้รับถูกชม does not reproduce this complete construction. Do not decide every praise phrase from a positive-versus-negative marker rule.
State That He Received Praise From The Teacher.
เขาได้รับครูยกย่องเขาได้รับการยกย่องจากครูThe selected complete phrase is เขาได้รับการยกย่องจากครู, with จาก introducing the teacher after the praise phrase. The other slot does not reproduce that displayed source phrase. This comparison does not prohibit every clause after ได้รับ or certify one agent position across all passive constructions.
How It Connects
Learn This First
ได้รับ means 'receive' and works as one verb: ได้รับจดหมาย (received a letter), ได้รับรางวัล (received an award). It sounds more formal than plain ได้ ('get'). Before some words it reports something that happened to someone, and the outcome can be good or bad: ได้รับคำชม (received praise), ได้รับบาดเจ็บ (was injured), ได้รับผลกระทบ (was affected). Knowing the passive ถูก first helps the learner compare the two.
- ได้ (โอกาส)Got to Do It
ได้รับ is best learned as one verb meaning 'receive'. Its negatives, ไม่ได้รับ (did not receive) and ยังไม่ได้รับ (have not received yet), look like the ไม่ได้ + verb pattern, so knowing that pattern makes them easier to read.
Level 1 - ให้ (มอบ)Give
Understanding the concept of giving and receiving is fundamental to the meaning of 'รับ' (to receive) and how it contrasts with 'ให้'.
Level 2 - ถูกHad It Done to You
Some ได้รับ phrases report something that happened to the subject, as ถูก does: ได้รับบาดเจ็บ (was injured), ได้รับเชิญ (was invited). Knowing ถูก first lets the learner compare them. The phrase and the register decide which word appears, and ได้รับ can report a bad outcome too.

- โดนReceiving an Action with โดน
Compare the actions and outcomes described with โดน in its whole examples; it is not inherently a highly negative version of every passive.
Level 2 - การ + VerbTurning a Verb into a Noun
