The examples place แต่อย่างใด after a denied involvement, injury, convenience, effect, or complacency, and before หรือไม่ in a question. Compare เลย through its complete examples rather than treating the phrases as interchangeable in every context.

How It Works

1. Denial in the Displayed Clauses
เขาไม่ได้เกี่ยวข้องกับเรื่องนี้แต่อย่างใด denies involvement in this matter. ไม่มีผู้ได้รับบาดเจ็บจากเหตุการณ์นี้แต่อย่างใด states that nobody was injured; it does not specifically report deaths. Compare the negative constructions with ไม่ and ไม่มี. Interpret the complete clause rather than deriving a compulsory word order or a grammatical taxonomy from these examples.

2. Negative Condition and Predicted Effect
หากท่านไม่ได้รับความสะดวกแต่อย่างใด โปรดแจ้งเจ้าหน้าที่ asks the addressee to inform staff if no convenience is provided at all. It does not equate that condition with every minor inconvenience. การกดปุ่มนี้เพียงลำพังจะไม่มีผลแต่อย่างใด predicts no effect from pressing this button alone; this is the example speaker’s assertion, not a tested technical result.

3. Idiom and Question
ทางบริษัท identifies the company in ทางบริษัทไม่ได้นิ่งนอนใจต่อปัญหานี้แต่อย่างใด. Read นิ่งนอนใจ as remaining complacent or ignoring the problem in this context, rather than literally resting a heart. ท่านมีข้อสงสัยเกี่ยวกับสัญญาฉบับนี้แต่อย่างใดหรือไม่ is a question about any doubts or questions concerning this contract. Its placement before หรือไม่ shows why a blanket sentence-final rule is unsuitable.

4. The Two Requested Rewrites
The first exercise specifically requests หากท่านมีข้อสงสัยประการใด for an affirmative condition introducing any questions. Preserve the original alternative as a comparison; this task does not prove that แต่อย่างใด is impossible in every positive condition. The second requests กับข้าวไม่อร่อยเลย using เลย. The alternative food sentence does not become universally ungrammatical or forbidden among friends.

5. Written Witness and Linked Comparisons
The complete Thai abstract of a Chulalongkorn University 2008 thesis uses มิได้...แต่อย่างใด in two denials, including a denial of legal binding force. That is a written usage witness, not an endorsement of its legal claims or proof of frequency. Compare มิได้ and เลย in their own full contexts. Other linked expressions teach corrective responses, contrasts, limitation, and points; they do not establish an automatic politeness effect or an exclusive formal-versus-casual division.

    If you are not provided with any convenience at all, please inform the staff.

    Word by Word: If you not receive any convenience at all, please inform staff.

    Read the complete negative condition. Receiving no convenience at all is not logically identical to experiencing any minor inconvenience.

  4. การกดปุ่มนี้เพียงลำพังจะไม่มีผลแต่อย่างใด

    Pressing this button alone will have no effect at all.

    Word by Word: [action noun] pressing this button alone will not have any effect.

    The sentence predicts no effect from the isolated action. It does not verify how an actual button works.

  5. ทางบริษัทไม่ได้นิ่งนอนใจต่อปัญหานี้แต่อย่างใด

    The company is not ignoring this problem in the least.

    Word by Word: Company [not] remain complacent about this problem in any way.

    Read ทางบริษัท as the company reference and นิ่งนอนใจ as the idiom in this denial. The statement does not prove the company’s actual response.

  6. ท่านมีข้อสงสัยเกี่ยวกับสัญญาฉบับนี้แต่อย่างใดหรือไม่

    Do you have any doubts or questions concerning this contract?

    Word by Word: You have any doubts concerning this contract [classifier] or not?

    แต่อย่างใด appears before หรือไม่ in this question. Read ข้อสงสัย as doubts or questions, not a literal physical point.

Common Mistakes

  • Not reproducing the requested affirmative-condition form ประการใด.

    For this task, write หากท่านมีข้อสงสัยประการใด to introduce any questions. Compare the displayed negative constructions with ไม่ and ไม่มี, but do not turn the task into a universal ban on every affirmative clause containing แต่อย่างใด.

  • Using a different phrase when the task requests เลย.

    กับข้าวไม่อร่อยแต่อย่างใด
    กับข้าวไม่อร่อยเลย

    The task requests กับข้าวไม่อร่อยเลย using เลย. The alternative แต่อย่างใด sentence can be interpreted in context; this exercise does not prohibit it in every food conversation or establish how friends always speak.
