เหตุผลหลายประการ groups several reasons, while ทุกประการ describes every respect in the agreement example. Compare อัน and อย่าง in their own complete examples; these words are not automatically interchangeable.

How It Works

1. Read the Counted Items
เหตุผลหลายประการ identifies several reasons; คุณสมบัติสำคัญสามประการ identifies three important qualifications. Compare the displayed counting order with each complete phrase. NIU records ประการ for kinds, sorts, items and respects, and its selected clauses include dissatisfaction in many respects and a first-and-second list. These are narrow lexical examples, not an exhaustive classifier taxonomy.

2. Read the List
ประการแรก introduces the first point in the safety example. Compare ประการที่สอง as a second-point expression in its own context. This does not establish one compulsory form for every list or a measured frequency.

3. Read the Whole Expression
ผมเห็นด้วยกับคุณทุกประการ expresses agreement with you in every respect. Read เห็นด้วย together as agree, rather than translating it as see with. In บริษัทไม่มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องแต่ประการใด, the complete negative statement denies involvement whatsoever. NIU separately records แต่ประการใด with an at-all reading; แต่ here is not translated as a contrastive but. Compare ประการใด in its complete question context, and ด้วยประการฉะนี้ or ด้วยประการทั้งปวง as whole manner or totality expressions; their spelling alone proves neither an etymology nor a required speech ending.

4. Compare the Requested Tasks
The first exercise requests เหตุผลสองอย่าง while acknowledging that เหตุผลสองประการ is grammatical. The second requests ข้อสอบมีสิบข้อ for ten examination question items. Neither task establishes a ban on ประการ among friends or a universal physical-versus-abstract split between ข้อ and ประการ. Compare register within complete situations; this written lesson does not certify social ranking, formality, population frequency or pronunciation.

    หลายประการ groups several เหตุผล. ผม is I in this sentence, and ตัดสินใจ is read together as decide. The selected past reading comes from context rather than a past-tense ending.

  2. ประการแรก เราต้องคำนึงถึงความปลอดภัย

    Firstly, we must consider safety.

    Word by Word: first point / we / must / consider (คำนึงถึง) / safety

    ประการแรก introduces the first point and ต้อง contributes must. Read คำนึงถึง together as consider. The English “we” and this Thai sentence alone do not identify the speaker’s group.

  3. คุณสมบัติสำคัญสามประการของผู้สมัคร

    The three important qualifications of the applicant.

    Word by Word: qualifications / important / three / ประการ classifier / of / applicant

    Read สำคัญ as modifying คุณสมบัติ and สามประการ as the count. ผู้สมัคร identifies the applicant. This is a noun phrase rather than proof that a particular applicant actually has these qualifications.

  4. ผมเห็นด้วยกับคุณทุกประการ

    I agree with you in every respect.

    Word by Word: I / agree (เห็นด้วย) / with / you / in every respect (ทุกประการ)

    เห็นด้วย supplies agree and กับ supplies with. ทุกประการ describes the scope of the stated agreement; the sentence does not independently verify that every opinion is correct.

  5. บริษัทไม่มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องแต่ประการใด

    The company is not involved in any way whatsoever.

    Word by Word: company / not have / part in involvement / whatsoever (แต่ประการใด)

    Read ไม่มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้อง as denying involvement and แต่ประการใด within the whole negative statement as whatsoever. This is the speaker’s denial in an example, not an independently verified fact about a company.

Common Mistakes

  • Using ประการ when this rewrite task requests อย่าง.

    ฉันมีเหตุผลสองประการที่ไปไม่ได้
    ฉันมีเหตุผลสองอย่างที่ไปไม่ได้

    For this task, reproduce ฉันมีเหตุผลสองอย่างที่ไปไม่ได้. The retained ฉันมีเหตุผลสองประการที่ไปไม่ได้ is grammatical and conveys two reasons for being unable to go. The task selects อย่าง; it does not prohibit ประการ in every conversation with friends or establish a formality ranking.

  • Using ประการ when the task requests ten examination question items with ข้อ.

    ข้อสอบมีสิบประการ
    ข้อสอบมีสิบข้อ

    The requested wording is ข้อสอบมีสิบข้อ, counting ten examination question items with ข้อ. The retained ข้อสอบมีสิบประการ does not reproduce that requested count expression. Read any other use in its complete context; this pair does not prove that ข้อ always counts physical objects and ประการ always counts abstract ones.
