Future With voi
Voi plus the infinitive is a standard Romanian future, especially frequent in writing and formal speech. It is also grammatical in conversation, where o să and am să are often more usual.
How It Works
The Viitorul I is a periphrastic (compound) tense. Unlike the colloquial future with o să, this form sounds objective and firm.
1. Formation:
Take the auxiliary and add the short infinitive. For example, for a merge (to go), the short infinitive is merge.
Result: Voi merge (I will go).
2. Pronoun Placement:
In standard modern Romanian, direct and indirect object clitics, as well as reflexive pronouns, are placed before the auxiliary verb.
Important Note: Unlike the compound perfect where the feminine clitic -o moves to the end (e.g., am văzut-o), in the future tense it remains before the auxiliary (e.g., o voi vedea).
3. Negation:
The particle nu is placed at the very beginning of the verb phrase.
• Nu voi uita. (I will not forget.)
4. Usage Context:
Use this tense when writing an essay, a formal email, or when delivering a speech. It is also grammatical in conversation. O să is often the more conversational choice; the choice depends on context, intention, and register.

Common Mistakes
Including the particle 'a' before the infinitive.
Voi a merge la magazin.Voi merge la magazin. The future tense uses the short infinitive. You must drop the 'a' that usually precedes the dictionary form.
Placing pronouns between the auxiliary and the verb in standard speech.
Voi te suna mâine.Te voi suna mâine. In standard modern Romanian, clitic pronouns must precede the auxiliary verb. Placing them between the auxiliary and the main verb is incorrect.
How It Connects
