باید رسیده باشد

Inference About a Completed Event

Level 5

Evidence: the trip ended long ago → باید تا حالا رسیده باشد.

How It Works

State an evidence-based conclusion. سارا باید تا حالا رسیده باشد can be said after enough travel time has passed. رسیده is the participle and باشد is third-singular باشـ. The speaker concludes arrival rather than ordering Sara to travel.

Keep the subject. باید تا حالا رسیده باشند concerns a group. باشند carries its plural ending, while باید remains unchanged. Use the ending on the dependent predicate to identify who is inferred to have arrived.

Compare a completion requirement. برای شرکت در جلسه، باید تا ساعت نه رسیده باشید can require the addressee’s arrival before nine. The goal and deadline support obligation. The perfect subjunctive itself does not mean inference in every setting.

Avoid overstating certainty. An inference can later prove wrong. For a mere possibility, شاید تا حالا رسیده باشد is less committed. Persian does not assign fixed numerical probabilities to these phrases; read the evidence and the speaker’s stance.

Examples (4)

  1. سارا باید تا حالا رسیده باشد.

Sara must have arrived by now.

An inference from travel time in this context.

  2. آن‌ها باید پیام را دیده باشند.

They must have seen the message.

An evidence-based conclusion, not a verified observation.

  3. برای شرکت در جلسه، باید تا ساعت نه رسیده باشید.

To take part in the meeting, you must have arrived by nine.

The deadline and purpose give this a completion-requirement reading.

  4. شاید تا حالا رسیده باشد.

They may have arrived by now.
