من، تو، او، ما، شما، آنها
Personal Pronouns
من is I, تو is you, and او can be he or she. The same pronoun form can also appear as an object or an owner.
How It Works
| Form | Core meaning |
|---|---|
| من | I; me |
| تو | you, familiar singular |
| او | he; she |
| ما | we; us |
| شما | you, plural or respectful singular |
| آنها | they; them |
In من اینجا هستم., من is the subject. In سارا من را دید., it is the object. In کتابِ من, it identifies the owner. The form من stays the same.
او does not tell you whether a person is a man or a woman. Translate it according to the known person; do not invent a gender when the context does not provide one. For things, demonstratives such as آن are common and context determines the wording.
Everyday Iranian often uses اون for او or آن and اونا for آنها. Learn these as labeled spoken forms rather than changing a formal passage automatically.
