fa bon temps, fa fred
Weather
Fa and a few weather verbs describe the weather.
How It Works
Occitan describes the weather with fa, the he or she form of far, and no subject.
| Occitan | English |
|---|---|
| Fa bon temps. | The weather is good. |
| Fa bèl temps. | The weather is nice. |
| Fa fred. | It is cold. |
| Fa caud. | It is hot. |
| Plòu. | It rains. It is raining. |
| Nèva. | It snows. It is snowing. |
The present covers both English meanings. To deny, put pas after the verb: Plòu pas. Ask with Quin temps fa? (What is the weather like?). A person who feels cold uses Ai fred, with aver. Do not use èsser for the weather.

How It Connects
Learn This First
Weather uses fa, and learners compare it with feelings with aver (Ai fred, Fa fred), so far and those feelings come first.
