Write the hyphens in 17, 18 and 19. These numbers do not change for gender: quinze libres, quinze cadièras.

Fourteen is catòrze, with a c and an open ò. It looks different from French quatorze, so learn the spelling. A number can also give an age with aver (Joan a catòrze ans.) or an hour with son (Son dotze oras.). Count in order: onze, dotze, tretze, catòrze, quinze, setze, dètz-e-sèt, dètz-e-uèch, dètz-e-nòu, vint.

Examples (4)

  1. Ai quinze libres.

    I have fifteen books.

Quinze comes before a plural noun.

  2. I a dètz-e-uèch cadièras.

    There are eighteen chairs.

The hyphens join dètz, e and uèch.

  3. Joan a catòrze ans.

    Catòrze is the Occitan spelling.

  4. I a onze dròlles.
