Numbers 20 to 100
The tens, and how to add the units.
How It Works
| Number | Word | Number | Word |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | vint | 60 | seissanta |
| 30 | trenta | 70 | setanta |
| 40 | quaranta | 80 | ochanta |
| 50 | cinquanta | 90 | nonanta |
| 100 | cent |
The twenties are special: the unit joins vint with e and hyphens, as in vint-e-un (21) and vint-e-quatre (24). From thirty the unit simply follows the ten: trenta-cinc (35), quaranta-un (41), nonanta-nòu (99). Some writers use a space instead of the hyphen.
Seventy, eighty and ninety are single words: setanta, ochanta, nonanta. They are not built on twenty, as French does. The tens do not change for gender.

Cent is one hundred.
Common Mistakes
