-नुपर्दैन

Saying You Do Not Have to

Level 2Sounds Like nupardaina

-नुपर्दैन means there is no need. For a ban, use -नु हुँदैन.

How It Works

The pattern is the stem, -नु, and पर्दैन, written as one word. The doer usually takes ले, as with -नुपर्छ.

IdeaForm
Mustजानुपर्छ
Does not have toजानुपर्दैन
Must notजानु हुँदैन

Keep these three apart. If you say तपाईंले यहाँ बस्नुपर्दैन, the listener hears that you do not need to sit here. For a rule or a ban, say बस्नु हुँदैन.

People use -नुपर्दैन to comfort and to reassure: तिमीले चिन्ता गर्नुपर्दैन (you do not need to worry). The past is -नुपरेन: हिजो मैले जानुपरेन (I did not have to go yesterday).

The verb does not change for the person. Only the doer and the context tell you who is let off.
