नेपालीमा के भन्छन्

Asking for a Word in Nepali

Level 2Sounds Like nēpālīmā kē bhanchan

यसलाई नेपालीमा के भन्छन्? asks what a thing is called in Nepali.

How It Works

This pattern is how you ask for a word. The thing takes लाई, the language takes मा, and the verb is भन्छन्: यसलाई नेपालीमा के भन्छन्? (what do you call this in Nepali?).

The verb is plural, भन्छन्, because it means that people in general say it. The answer has the same pieces: यसलाई चिया भन्छन् (this is called tea).

You can change the language: यसलाई अंग्रेजीमा के भन्छन्? (what do they call this in English?). You can change the thing: त्यसलाई नेपालीमा केरा भन्छन् (that is called banana in Nepali).

You can also put the word first and ask about it: चियालाई अंग्रेजीमा के भन्छन्? (what is tea called in English?).

Use यसलाई for something near you and त्यसलाई for something far from you. The verb stays भन्छन्.
