-ने कुरा
The Fact That Something Happens
A clause ending in -ने plus कुरा names the fact that something is going to happen.
How It Works
Nepali usually does not join two clauses with a word like the English that (भनेर and कि also exist). To talk about the fact that something happens, put the clause in the -ने form and add कुरा (matter). The phrase can be the subject or the object of a bigger sentence.
| Clause | The fact |
|---|---|
| उनी आउँछिन्। | उनी आउने कुरा |
| स्कुल बन्द हुन्छ। | स्कुल बन्द हुने कुरा |
The phrase fits verbs of knowing and hearing: थाहा छ, सुनेँ, साँचो हो, थाहा पाउनुभयो.
The -ने form usually looks ahead to what will happen or is planned. A fact that has already happened takes -एको: उनी आएको कुरा (the fact that she came).
