How It Works

Join -तर्फे to a name or a group. महापालिकेतर्फे रस्त्यांची दुरुस्ती करण्यात येत आहे. (The municipal corporation is repairing the roads.)

The word before -तर्फे takes its oblique form: शाळा becomes शाळेतर्फे, and आयोजक becomes आयोजकांतर्फे for a group.

In news, -तर्फे often goes with the passive, where the doer would be: शाळेतर्फे वार्षिक स्नेहसंमेलन आयोजित करण्यात आले. (The school organised the annual gathering.)

In a greeting or a thank-you, it passes the words on: माझ्यातर्फे तुम्हाला दिवाळीच्या शुभेच्छा. (Diwali wishes to you from me.)

It also names the side a player or a speaker stands for: तो पुण्याच्या संघातर्फे खेळला. (He played for Pune's team.)

The ending itself never changes. Only the word before it takes its oblique form, and the word with -तर्फे does not decide the verb: in a passive the verb agrees with the thing done, and in तो पुण्याच्या संघातर्फे खेळला it agrees with तो.

Do not use -तर्फे for the way something is done. Say बसने for "by bus", and ईमेलद्वारे for "by email".

    -तर्फे names the committee as the giver.

    -तर्फे joins the name, which takes its oblique form.

  • Using -तर्फे for the way of travel.

    मी बसतर्फे गेलो.
    मी बसने गेलो.

    -तर्फे means "on behalf of". For the way of travel, use -ने.
