-हून / -पासून

From a Place or Time

Level 2Sounds Like hūna / -pāsūna

To get something from a person, use -कडून: आईकडून.

How It Works

Pick the ending by the kind of start.

StartEndingExample
a place a journey begins at-हूनपुण्याहून आलो
a place a thing is sent from-हूननाशिकहून पाठवले
a day or an hour-पासूनसोमवारपासून
a point a distance starts from-पासूनस्टेशनपासून जवळ

A place name takes its joining shape: पुणे becomes पुण्याहून, ठाणे becomes ठाण्याहून. मुंबई stays मुंबईहून.

For a journey from a place, -हून is the usual ending. -हून does not mark a starting day.

Put -पर्यंत after the end point to make a pair: सोमवारपासून शुक्रवारपर्यंत.

-हून answers कुठून? (from where?), and -पासून answers कधीपासून? (since when?). A person can also be the point a distance starts from: आईपासून दूर means far from Mom. To get something from a person, use -कडून.
