-कडून
From Someone
A place a trip starts from uses -हून, and a person you get something from uses -कडून.
How It Works
The person is where the thing starts its trip.
| Word | With -कडून |
|---|---|
| आई | आईकडून |
| काका | काकांकडून |
| सई | सईकडून |
| मी | माझ्याकडून |
| तू | तुझ्याकडून |
| कोण | कोणाकडून |
Respected people such as काका usually take the plural shape, so you write काकांकडून.
-कडून also works with news and feelings that reach someone: मला ही बातमी सईकडून कळली.
The giver or teacher takes -कडून, and the doer is the one who takes or learns: मी आईकडून पैसे घेतले.
Compare the three people endings. आईला gives to Mom, आईकडून takes from Mom, and आईशी talks with Mom.
Ask the question with कोणाकडून? to find out who gave or taught something. The answer is a person, so the answer ends in -कडून as well: आजीकडून.
Use it for gifts and messages too: ही भेट सईकडून आली means this gift came from Sai.
