-प्रमाणे also follows a verb in -ल्या, as in सांगितल्याप्रमाणे.

How It Works

Join the ending to the noun. नियमानुसार प्रवेश दिला जाईल. (Admission will be given according to the rules.)

The body that gave the forecast can come first, joined with -च्या: हवामान खात्याच्या अंदाजानुसार उद्या जोरदार पाऊस पडेल. (According to the weather department's forecast, it will rain heavily tomorrow.)

-प्रमाणे also follows a verb in -ल्या and means "as": आईने सांगितल्याप्रमाणे मी लवकर घरी आलो. (A man says he came home early, as his mother had told him.) A woman might say: ठरल्याप्रमाणे मी सकाळी नऊ वाजता पोहोचले.

Use these endings for rules, orders, forecasts and plans, where the writer points to something that guides what follows.

News also names people with it: पोलिसांच्या माहितीनुसार (according to the police), त्यांच्या म्हणण्यानुसार (according to what he said). The noun can take -प्रमाणे in the same way: नियमाप्रमाणे.

Do not leave a space before the ending. Join the ending to the noun or verb, as one word.

  3. ठरल्याप्रमाणे मी सकाळी नऊ वाजता पोहोचले.

    I arrived at nine in the morning, as we had decided. A woman is speaking.

    -प्रमाणे follows the verb form ठरल्या.

  4. आदेशानुसार दुकाने रात्री बंद ठेवण्यात आली.

    The shops were kept closed at night according to the order.

    -नुसार names the order that was followed.

  5. आईने सांगितल्याप्रमाणे मी लवकर घरी आलो.

    I came home early, as Mother had told me. A man is speaking.

    -प्रमाणे follows सांगितल्या.

Common Mistakes

  • Writing the ending as a separate word.

    नियम नुसार प्रवेश दिला जाईल.
    नियमानुसार प्रवेश दिला जाईल.

    -नुसार joins the noun.

  • Leaving the noun without its linking vowel.

    नियमनुसार प्रवेश दिला जाईल.
    नियमानुसार प्रवेश दिला जाईल.

    The noun takes -ा or -े before -नुसार: नियमानुसार, योजनेनुसार.
