-ण्याचा प्रयत्न करणे

Trying to Do Something

Level 3Sounds Like ṇyācā prayatna karaṇē

-ण्याचा does not change with करणे, because it matches the masculine word प्रयत्न.

How It Works

The pattern has three parts: the verb with -ण्याचा, the word प्रयत्न (effort), and करणे in the tense you need.

VerbWith -ण्याचा
येणेयेण्याचा प्रयत्न
शिकणेशिकण्याचा प्रयत्न
उठणेउठण्याचा प्रयत्न
चालणेचालण्याचा प्रयत्न

करणे takes any tense: मी येण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो, मी येण्याचा प्रयत्न केला, मी येण्याचा प्रयत्न करीन.

In the past, करणे matches प्रयत्न, which is masculine, so the verb is केला for a man and a woman: मी उठण्याचा प्रयत्न केला.

The -चा ending joins the action to the noun. Here the noun is प्रयत्न as the object of करणे, so it is -चा. When प्रयत्न takes an ending, the form changes: येण्याच्या प्रयत्नात. With other nouns the ending changes: वाचण्याची सवय (the habit of reading).

Use this pattern for an effort over time, such as getting up early. For a quick try, such as tasting a dish, use -ून पाहणे. The negative is: मी येण्याचा प्रयत्न करणार नाही. (I will not try to come.)

    मी येण्याचा प्रयत्न करीन.

प्रयत्न is masculine, so the ending is -चा.

  • Using the bare -णे form.

    मी येणे प्रयत्न करीन.
    मी येण्याचा प्रयत्न करीन.
