-ण्यासाठी
In Order to Do Something
The ending is written as one word, and the purpose usually comes first.
How It Works
-ण्यासाठी is a purpose ending. It joins the verb and means "for doing" or "in order to".
| Verb | Purpose form |
|---|---|
| शिकणे | शिकण्यासाठी |
| भेटणे | भेटण्यासाठी |
| जेवणे | जेवण्यासाठी |
| शोधणे | शोधण्यासाठी |
The purpose often comes first, and the main clause follows: मराठी शिकण्यासाठी मी रोज वाचते.
Only the main verb agrees with the person. In मी नोकरी शोधण्यासाठी पुण्यात आलो, आलो shows a man.
Write the whole ending as one word. The ending -साठी on a noun, as in माझ्यासाठी, is another pattern.
The same ending joins a longer phrase: मराठी बातम्या समजून घेण्यासाठी मी रोज वाचते. The whole phrase before -ण्यासाठी is the purpose.
The purpose may also come after the main clause: मी पुण्यात आलो, नोकरी शोधण्यासाठी.
-ायला is a shorter purpose ending, used with going and coming. -ण्यासाठी is fuller and fits any verb.
