ना … ना
Neither … nor
The verb stays positive. ना … ना already carries the "no".
How It Works
Put ना before each item. आज ना ऊन आहे, ना पाऊस. (Today there is neither sun nor rain.) The verb आहे is positive, because the two ना words already say no.
| Items | Sentence |
|---|---|
| two nouns | ना फोन, ना मेसेज. |
| nouns with a verb | खोलीत ना पंखा होता, ना दिवा. |
| two verbs | मी ना हसलो, ना रडलो. |
With two verbs, each verb takes ना and is in the same form: मी ना हसलो, ना रडलो (a man speaking); तो ना खातो, ना पितो. A woman says मी ना जेवले, ना झोपले. Do not add नाही.
The sentence can be a short phrase with no verb at all, as in ना फोन, ना मेसेज. It reads as a complaint or a plain fact.
The two items should be of the same kind: two nouns, or two verbs. Use the same ending on both.
The Hindi pair न … न is not Marathi. Use ना … ना.

Common Mistakes
Adding नाही to a ना … ना sentence.
मी ना हसलो, ना रडलो नाही.मी ना हसलो, ना रडलो.ना … ना already says no, so नाही is extra and makes the sentence wrong.
Leaving out the second ना.
मी ना हसलो, रडलो.मी ना हसलो, ना रडलो.Each choice takes its own ना.
