How It Works

म्हणजे has three common uses.

To ask what a word means, put म्हणजे before काय: वाडा म्हणजे काय? (What does वाडा mean?)

In speech, म्हणजे also works as a filler or a correction: तू कधी येशील? म्हणजे किती वाजता? (When will you come? I mean, at what time?)

म्हणजे is one word. Put a comma before it when it opens a conclusion: आज रविवार आहे, म्हणजे सुट्टी आहे.

म्हणजे does not change for gender or number. The verb after it follows the usual rules.
