जास्त / कमी

More and Less

Level 3Sounds Like jāsta / kamī

Both words stay the same for every gender and number.

How It Works

जास्त and कमी give an amount. They fit before a noun, as in कमी गर्दी, and before a verb, as in जास्त चालतो.

WordExample
कमीआज गर्दी कमी आहे.
जास्तमला जास्त चहा नको.
कमी before a verbमी आज कमी जेवले.

Use -पेक्षा to compare: पुण्यात मुंबईपेक्षा पाऊस कमी पडतो. (It rains less in Pune than in Mumbai.)

A man says मी रोज जास्त चालतो, and a woman says मी रोज जास्त चालते. The word जास्त never changes.

With a verb, जास्त and कमी say how much or how little of the action: तो जास्त बोलतो. (He talks a lot.) ती कमी बोलते. (She talks little.)

जास्त can also mean too much when the amount is more than you want: जास्त साखर नको.
