का? / हो / नाही
Yes or No Questions
A question with का needs no other change in the sentence.
How It Works
Take any statement and add का.
| Statement | Question |
|---|---|
| तुम्ही घरी आहात. | तुम्ही घरी आहात का? |
| हे तुझे पुस्तक आहे. | हे तुझे पुस्तक आहे का? |
Answer with हो or नाही, and then say the rest if you want: हो, मी घरी आहे. नाही, मला चहा नको.
Your voice also goes up at the end of the question. Marathi has no word like क्या that goes in front. In a yes-or-no question, का stands at the end, and a calling word such as रे or गं can follow it: तू येतोस का रे? Before the verb, का asks why: तू का हसतोस? (Why are you laughing?)
A short answer is enough: तुम्ही घरी आहात का? हो. Add the person's name or a polite word when you speak to an elder: हो, काका.
