पाकल आम

Describing with the -ल Form

Level 4Sounds Like pākala āma

The -ल form before a noun tells you what state the noun is in.

How It Works

The -ल form shows that something has been done. Placed before a noun, it describes the noun's state as a result of that action.

Verb-ल formWith a noun
पाकबपाकलपाकल आम (ripe mango)
खुजबखुजलखुजल केबाड़ (open door)
सुतबसुतलसुतल बच्चा (sleeping child)
टूटबटूटलटूटल कप (broken cup)
  • The word stays the same for every noun. There is no masculine or feminine form.
  • The same form after the noun can also be the predicate, as in केबाड़ खुजल अछि (the door is open).
  • To say who did the action, put the doer with -क first: रामक लिखल चिट्ठी (the letter Ram wrote).

Hindi uses पका हुआ for this. Maithili does not need हुआ; the -ल form is enough.
