बहैत धार

Describing with the -ैत Form

Level 4Sounds Like bahaita dhāra

The -ैत form before a noun shows the noun is doing the action.

How It Works

The -ैत form shows an action in progress. Before a noun, it describes the noun as doing that action: बहैत धार is a river that flows.

Verb-ैत formWith a noun
बहबबहैतबहैत धार (flowing river)
कानबकनैतकनैत बच्चा (crying child)
चलबचलैतचलैत गाड़ी (moving car)
उड़बउड़ैतउड़ैत चिड़ै (flying bird)
  • It describes what is happening at that moment, not a habit.
  • It stays the same for every noun, whether one or many.
  • It is different from the -ल form: पाकल आम is a finished state, बहैत धार is an action going on.

In Hindi, this is बहती or रोता. Maithili does not change the ending for gender. Do not say "बहता हुआ" in Maithili.
