इसके बावजूद (despite that) points back to a fact; के बावजूद follows a noun: बारिश के बावजूद मैच हुआ.
How It Works
बावजूद means despite. After a noun or pronoun it always takes के, so it works like a postposition.
- इसके बावजूद: despite this. It usually opens a new sentence and points back to the one before: रास्ता लंबा था। इसके बावजूद हम समय पर पहुँचे।
- Noun + के बावजूद: बारिश के बावजूद (despite the rain), इतनी मेहनत के बावजूद (despite all that hard work).
- Verb + -ने के बावजूद: the verb takes its -ने form, as before any postposition: बीमार होने के बावजूद (despite being ill).
The other part of the sentence is an ordinary sentence. Its verb follows its own subject.
In speech you will also hear इसके बावजूद भी, with भी for extra force. In everyday Hindi, फिर भी (even so) and हालाँकि (although) often express the same idea.
Keep बावजूद apart from की वजह से (because of). बारिश की वजह से मैच नहीं हुआ means the rain stopped the match. बारिश के बावजूद मैच हुआ means the match went ahead anyway.

इसके points back to the long road in the first sentence.
- बहुत तेज़ बारिश हो रही है। इसके बावजूद दुकान खुली है।

The shop is open in spite of what the first sentence describes.
- बारिश के बावजूद मैच समय पर शुरू हुआ।
Despite the rain, the match started on time.
Here के बावजूद follows the noun बारिश directly.
- देर होने के बावजूद रीना ने काम पूरा किया।
Even though it was late, Reena finished the work.
Before के बावजूद, होना takes the -ने form: होने.
- इतनी मेहनत के बावजूद वह पास नहीं हो सका।
Despite all that hard work, he couldn't pass.
The result goes against what the effort would lead you to expect.
