Even So
फिर भी says something happens even though the first part suggests it shouldn't.
How It Works
Use फिर भी when the second fact goes against what the first one leads you to expect.
It was raining, but the match still went ahead.
I explained it again and again, and he still wouldn't agree.
फिर भी usually opens the second clause, as above. It can also come after the subject: People often add लेकिन or पर in front: थका हुआ था, लेकिन फिर भी खेलता रहा (He was tired, but he kept playing anyway).
If the first clause starts with हालाँकि (although), फिर भी is the natural way to open the second one: हालाँकि वह बीमार था, फिर भी काम पर गया.
Keep फिर भी apart from plain फिर, which means then or again. Together, फिर and भी work as one unit meaning still.
Examples (4)
She was ill, but she still went to the office.
फिर भी opens the result you would not expect.
I called him twice, and he still didn't pick up.
The second clause goes against what the first leads you to expect.
The food was cold, but everyone enjoyed it anyway.
फिर भी here matches English anyway.
We left early, but we were still late.
पर फिर भी adds weight to the contrast.
