की वजह से / के कारण
Because of
की वजह से and के कारण name the cause of something; they follow a noun.
How It Works
Both phrases work like postpositions. They come after the cause, and the noun before them takes the form it has before any postposition: बच्चों की वजह से, ख़राब मौसम के कारण.
| Cause | की वजह से | के कारण |
|---|---|---|
| बारिश | बारिश की वजह से | बारिश के कारण |
| मैं | मेरी वजह से | मेरे कारण |
| वह | उसकी वजह से | उसके कारण |
The cause can also be an action in the -ने form: देर से उठने की वजह से मेरी बस छूट गई (I missed my bus because I got up late).
These phrases take a noun. When the cause is a whole sentence with its own verb, use क्योंकि instead: मैच रद्द हो गया क्योंकि बारिश हो रही थी. To point back to a reason already given, say इस वजह से or इस कारण (for this reason).
