თუ (Or in Questions)
Or in Questions
In a question, თუ means or: ჩაი გინდა თუ ყავა?
How It Works
Georgian has two words for or.
| Word | Where | Example |
|---|---|---|
| თუ | a question with a choice | ჩაი გინდა თუ ყავა? |
| ან | a statement | ჩაი ან ყავა მინდა. |
Use თუ when you ask someone to pick one of two things. The first choice often comes with the verb, and the second follows თუ: ჩაი გინდა თუ ყავა? (Do you want tea or coffee?)
The second choice takes the same ending as the first: ავტობუსით მიდიხარ თუ მეტროთი? (Are you going by bus or by metro?)
თუ has another job too. It also means if, which you will learn at the next level. In a question with two choices, it means or.
